...Kit List for Meets

Kit List

Food and Drink.

On our weekends away you need to provide your own food and drink. On the Friday night we leave around 7pm so you can either eat before we leave or we usually call at a chippy or takeaway sometime that evening. You need to provide breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday (bearing in mind you’ll probably be on the mountain for lunch). Dinner on Saturday night will be provided. Socialising is a large part of the evenings and a lot of people bring their own alcohol. You may bring as little or a much as you can drink!!

Huts

All our meets tend to be in huts rather than camping. So no need to worry about tents! The facilities usually consist of ; bunk beds – bedding not provided , wash facilities, showers, fridge freezers, occasionally microwaves, cookers, cutlery, crokery, open fires.etc. You generally need your sleeping bag, pillow(if space allows), clothes, food and drink.

Clothing

Clothing is largely dependent on the weather. A selection of warm and comfortable clothing is needed. For days out on the hills we suggest a light weight pair of trousers, jeans are not recommended, and thin layers of tops rather than one big layer – generally a t-shirt and then jumper and fleeces. Gloves, hats and scarfs are suggested but not essential. Waterproofs are an essential .

Remember general things such as a towel, day rucksack for your lunch, sandwich bags and drinks. You need a good pair of strong, sturdy boots for hillwalking as trainers do not give any support and have limited friction. In the evenings everyone dresses casually as long as you are comfortable and can relax and enjoy yourself.

Climbing

You need a harness, climbing shoes and a belay device. The harness and belay device can be borrowed from the club – we have a limited supply. We do not have spare climbing shoes. We suggest that you can give climbing a try in trainers or walking boots to see if climbing is for you. You may then decide to buy your own climbing gear over a period of time. When we climb indoors at Warwick you can hire shoes there.

Any questions or queries don’t hesitate to ask any of the exec and we’ll endeavour to clarify. No need to worry if you forget anything as someone is bound to have something to lend you.

Gear can be bought from Go Outdoors in Canely or Millets in the town centre.
